PROFESSIONAL SCENE STUDY NYC SCENE STUDY GROUPS ARE PRIVATE. What is different is that your group can also work on cold readings so you prepare yourself for auditions in theater, TV and film. You find the balance and focus your group needs. How often is scene study class scheduled? We can meet weekly. But you set the time frame that works best. There will be breaks for holidays and such. What day or night of the week will we meet? You set the schedule. What is the expectation for working frequency among participants? It's a self-scheduled class. So the balance is struck by participants. Generally, work is not assigned. Larry suggests scenes if you need guidance and on rare occasions reserves his right to veto choices. How long will classes go per session (as in how many hours?) Two to four hours depending on class size. How much time will be devoted to scenes? 45-50 minutes. Scenes should be ten minutes or less. Longer scenes may not get a chance for complete reworking. What kind of material will be done? Contemporary or classical scenes are be allowed. Larry suggests keeping close to your age and temperament at first--things you think you might be cast in. However, stretching for challenge, emotional reasons, etc has strong merit as well. As mentioned before what is different is that you can also work on cold readings so you prepare yourself for auditions in theater, TV and film. How does Larry work? At the beginning of the class we quickly discuss how everyone is doing, who's auditioning, who's networking, who's in rehearsal and performance and share group enthusiasm and support toward the work and business. Then, scenes are presented. After each scene, Larry discusses the scene and allows for group feedback. This is followed by reworking of the scene or working of specific points to address particular problems or issues. Larry is known for his text-based approaches, but in scene study he goes much deeper with you emotionally and emphasizes how to exist in the here and now, in the moment, how to focus on wants and desires, and how to make exciting acting choices that allow you to seize the stage.
